I am always mesmerised by how much attention there is on exploring the universe and understanding its laws, while often forgetting of the similarities that the centre of our planet has with it. If only we could observe how the laws of physics which regulate the universe are reproduced at the centre of the Earth…
Synopsis:
A journalist is invited to document an expedition aimed at reaching the Earth’s fluid strata. The journal starts from her arrival at a base in Antarctica, where 4 heat-proof shuttles will be lowered down a 200kms long vertical tunnel. Each shuttle will contain one single member of the expedition: the journalist will be one of them. However, a series of events both preceding and accompanying the expedition, will change the perspective of the whole mission..
The story alludes to the Nordic myth of Jörmungandr the World Serpent, who grew to the point that it could embrace the entire circumference of the Earth. In the myth, when Jörmungandr will release its tail Ragnarök will begin. Ragnarök is a serie of natural disasters leading to the submersion of the Earth in water.
The first season focuses on events occurring between the arrival of the journalist at the base and the launching of the expedition. The second season describes the events occurring during the expedition.
In this podcast I use voice, trumpet, both natural and morphed and occasionally field recordings.
This podcast aims at creating a fictional mysterious soundscape, using a story to support a dream like state where reality is not taken seriously and fantasy is encouraged.
I merge both the principle of storytelling and songs, setting a counterpoint between sounds/music and the narration. All chapters are very short and the voice is pinpointed by the music, becoming a sort of unsung songs.
